FAQ
- What setup is required to connect my laptop to Central Station?
- Before wirelessly connecting to Central Station, you must first install the Central Station driver to your laptop. The driver is included on an accompanying CD, and installation only takes a few minutes.
- What wireless technology does Central Station feature? Wi-Fi? Bluetooth?
- Samsung developed a new wireless technology to connect Central Station to your laptop via the included USB wireless adapter. It is a type of "Ultra-Wide Band" (UWB) technology. It will not interfere with any Wi-Fi or Bluetooth devices.
- Does Central Station require a Samsung PC and Samsung USB devices?
- No. Central Station was designed to work with the devices you already own. Central Station works with any brand Windows PC. Just connect the included USB wireless adapter to your PC. Similarly, you can use any brand USB devices. Just plug them into the base of Central Station and you're ready to go!
- Will it work with my PC? How about my Mac?
- Central Station works with any brand PC running Windows XP or Windows 7. (See the technical specifications for minimum system requirements.) We're working hard to add support for other operating systems. In coming months we'll add support for Mac OS and Windows Vista, which will be available via a free software update on samsung.com.
- What's the wireless range? Does this replace my home/office network?
- Central Station is designed to connect to your laptop when you bring it to your desk. The typical wireless range up to five feet. Central Station works alongside your existing home or office network, rather than replacing it.
- Can all my family members or coworkers share one Central Station?
- Yes. You can buy additional dongles (sold separately) so Mom, Dad and the kids can easily connect their laptops to the shared Central Station. Only one PC can be connected at a time. If more than one PC is within range, you can easily select which PC to connect by pressing the "Hub" menu button on Central Station.
- What happens when I plug a USB device into Central Station?
- When a device is connected to Central Station, it behaves exactly as if you had plugged it into your computer. In fact, your computer can't tell the difference. Once you connect to Central Station, you can sync, download files, type and print. Central Station's USB charging continues even when your PC is not connected, so your batteries are always full and ready to go.
- Does Central Station support USB 3.0? Does it require USB 3.0?
- Central Station works over USB 2.0 and USB 3.0. The wireless connection supports speeds up to USB 2.0. To take advantage of blazing fast USB 3.0 speeds you have to switch to the wired docking connection and use one of Central Station's two blue-colored USB 3.0 ports. To do that, connect the (included) USB cable from the back of Central Station to a USB 3.0 port on your PC. This single wired connection gives full docking functionality (video, USB devices, wired Internet and audio) and works with USB 2.0 and 3.0.
